from The Depression

A kindly couple adopted a ruin. They gave him all he could want: toys, food, water, a bed. They were kind & he was grateful. Despite this, he could not stop being a ruin. He ruined the kindly couple’s house & then he ruined their marriage & finally he ruined them. At the grocery store the tidy pyramids of grapefruits & apples would inevitably tumble to the floor. Homeless, attempting to find a place that could not be ruined, the ruin camped out in the graveyard. By morning all the stones were overturned & the graves had been dug up like a series of epiphanies at the end of an episode of some TV show that is never not streaming on your laptop.
